Why does St. Anthony’s Society for the Preservation of Sacred Music and Art believe that our Church should invest in a pipe organ?

• Our digital organ is approaching its twilight years and will need to be replaced within the next 3 – 5 years.

• As a prominent church in the Archdiocese of Miami, St. Anthony Church deserves high quality music and art befitting its stature.

• It was the first Catholic Church established in Broward and is considered the “mother church of the Catholic faith in Broward County.”

-• The Bishops of the Archdiocese often preside over mass here.

• We are the site for the annual “Red Mass” for the Thomas More Society of Lawyers and Judges.

• The prominent Baptist, Methodist, and Presbyterian churches in the neighborhood enjoy the rich sound of a pipe organ as part of their Sunday services.

• The E. M. Skinner Pipe Organ is a masterpiece built by the American pipe organ master, E.M. Skinner, and as such will represent a significant contribution to classical music in South Florida.

• St. Anthony will be able to host organ recitals by premier organists. These recitals will be shared with the community.

• The sound from this pipe organ will help any visitor feel the Divine Presence of God.

• Students of pipe organ music from nearby colleges and universities (e.g. FAU, and UM) will benefit from the opportunity to practice on this well recognized masterpiece.

• Pope Benedict on 9/13/06 said, "The organ has always been considered, and rightly so, the king of musical instruments, because it takes up all the sounds of creation and gives resonance to the fullness of human sentiments, from joy to sadness, from praise to lamentation. By transcending the merely human sphere, as all music of quality does, it evokes the divine.
